General Information about Pervasive Developmental Disorders

Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) is a diagnostic category which includes: Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Rett Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS).
PDDs are characterized by severe abnormalities in socialization, communication, and restricted interests and behaviours. The best known PDD is Autism and all PDDs are often referred to as "autistic spectrum disorders".
